St. Catherine of Siena Parish
302 St. Catherine Circle, Ithaca, New YorkLiturgy Committee
Recognizing that liturgy is the “primary and indispensable source from
which the faithful are to derive the true Christian Spirit,”[1]
the Liturgy Committee seeks to enhance the experience of the people of God as
they come together in worship. Members
drawn from the parish community with diverse skills and interests work together
with the staff and pastor to ensure that liturgy at St. Catherine’s reflects
the unique spirit and needs of this congregation, within the norms of the
Church.
The work of the committee includes:
· Determining
seasonal themes based upon the readings and prayers, and developing responses,
décor and elements of liturgy that enhance the communal celebration.
· Inviting members of the parish to
participate in liturgy through serving as Advent candle lighters, liturgical
ministers, responsorial prayer readers at Pentecost, and other roles unique to
the liturgical seasons.
· Assisting with the planning of
liturgical celebrations associated with special events like parish
anniversaries and festivals.
· Advising the pastor and staff on
preparing the congregation for changes in liturgy, such as the New Roman
Missal.
· Decorating the church for Easter,
Christmas and other holydays.
· Creating a welcoming environment for
all participants in our liturgical celebrations.
