Our Catholic tradition has always taught that the human body is sacred, and that all people are made in the image and likeness of God.
Because we know that our work with children is a sacred trust, we have fully implemented the Charter and Norms for the Protection of Children and Young People by conducting criminal record checks on all Church employees and volunteers who work with children, youth, or vulnerable adults.
This includes catechists, classroom aides, chaperones, Children’s Liturgy of the Word leaders, Communion ministers to group homes and the homebound, sacristans, music directors, accompanists, and any other people who would potentially be alone with children (though policies call for a team approach in ministering—i.e., an adult would never be alone with just one child).
We require that all volunteers be trained in Creating a Safe Environment (C.A.S.E.) every 3 years. (Staff have a separate training called Safe and Sacred.) C.A.S.E. may be completed during a session held at any school or church in our diocese.
For more information about C.A.S.E., contact the Parish Office at [email protected] or 257-2493.
The Diocese of Rochester also has many resources available on the diocesan website, under Protecting Our Children. You can access that site here.
How Do I Get Trained?
Please contact Rich Rasmussen at [email protected] for more information on how to complete C.A.S.E. training. You can access C.A.S.E. training online; the online C.A.S.E. instructions can be found below (under C.A.S.E. Forms).
